Workforce Services at the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center (SVHEC) hosted the Halifax County Chamber’s Senior Executive Roundtable meeting in the Innovation Center on January 28th. During the meeting Dr. Nettie Simon-Owens, SVHEC Director of Workforce Services, unveiled the SVHEC’s newly acquired Lincoln Virtual Welding Simulator. In response to local employers’ stated need for skilled welders, the SVHEC is working to bring a welding training program to Halifax County. The welding simulator is a key piece of equipment that will allow students of all ages and skill levels to learn and train in a safe, realistic, virtual environment. Members of the Senior Executive Roundtable and other industry representatives expressed enthusiasm and support for the project, and look forward to hearing more details as the initiative progresses.

Funding for the welding simulator was provided by a grant from the Dominion Foundation. For more information about Workforce Services@SVHEC, email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or call 434-572-5593 and toll free 1-800-283-0098.
