Ann Switzer, MSN, RN, CNE, CHSE
CNE Associate Director and AHEC Director
Ms. Switzer is Associate Director of the Center of Nursing Excellence (CNE) at the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center (SVHEC) in South Boston, Virginia, in addition to her role as SVHEC AHEC Director. Switzer’s background includes nursing education, management, and hospital staff positions over the last 23 years. Education and professional credentials include: Master of Science in Nursing, Nurse Educator Track; Associate of Science in Nursing; Bachelor of Science in Commerce; National League for Nursing, Certified Nurse Educator; Society for Simulation in Healthcare, Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator; Virginia Board of Nursing, Registered Nurse License #00001193128.
Ms. Switzer has managed healthcare projects funded by: the United States Department of Education; the United States Health Resources Administration, Office of Rural Health; the United States Food and Drug Agency; the American Cancer Society; the National Association of School Nurses; the Virginia Tobacco Region Revitalization Commission; the Halifax Regional Development Fund; and the Halifax Educational Foundation. She is active in several professional nursing education organizations, and she serves on three nursing education program advisory committees.
Stephanie Currin, Ed.S
AHEC Outreach Coordinator
Stephanie Currin, Ed.S is the SVHEC Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Outreach Coordinator. In this role, she works with Ann Switzer (SVHEC AHEC Director) promoting health careers to traditional and under-served populations. Currin stated, "I find healthcare and its expansion fascinating. I look forward to positively impacting healthcare careers in this region.”
Stephanie comes to the SVHEC AHEC with a wealth of experience in K-12 and higher education. She taught english for four years in Charlotte and Lunenburg County Public Schools before going to Southside Virginia Community College where she was full-time faculty in the Middle College Program for 14 years. She is also an adjunct english instructor forSVCC. Stephanie is a familiar face at the SVHEC, most recently serving as Operations Assistant for SVHEC educational partner Old Dominion University.
Stephanie has a passion for education and has exemplied that in her personal life. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Longwood University, a Master of Education in Teaching and Learning, and an Education Specialist degree from Liberty University. She also holds a graduate certificate in Autism Education from Liberty University.
The Southern Virginia Higher Education Center (SVHEC) announce Drew Morris has accepted the position of CNE Simulation Technologist. Drew is responsible for providing operational and technical support for the CNE's clinical learning lab. “I am so excited about adding Drew to the CNE and Workforce Services team. His technology expertise and enthusiasm for developing our programming are going to make a big difference for us,” said Ann Switzer, Associate Director of the Center of Nursing Excellence.
Prior to accepting the position of Simulation Technologist, Drew served as an SVHEC IT Specialist. Before joining the SVHEC staff in 2010, he was a computer technician with Halifax County Public Schools. He is a Microsoft Certified IT Professional, and an accomplished photographer.
Please join me in welcoming Virginia Byrd as the Program Coordinator in the Center of Nursing Excellence. Ms. Byrd began her duties today, August 25th, and comes to us with a wealth of office management experience. Prior to joining the SVHEC family, she was the office manager for the Upside To Youth mental health support agency in Danville, VA. Ms. Byrd has also held the position of Office Services Specialist/Human Resources for the Department of Corrections (South Boston, VA).
A Halifax County native, Virginia holds an Associate of Arts in Secretarial Science degree from National Business College and a Bachelor of Science in Management from the University of Phoenix. “I’m looking forward to getting to know the staff, providing my input and being an asset to the team,” she said. Ms. Byrd is the proud mother of two sons ages 23 and 16. Virginia loves sports and is an avid fan of her sons’ teams, the Virginia State University Trojans and the Halifax County Comets.
