Summer Career Camps@SVHEC

Area students are invited to attend free career focused camps at SVHEC this summer. Camps will focus on exploring in-demand careers in healthcare, energy, or information technology (IT), and are open to middle and high school students. Spaces are limited and pre-registration is required.

The health careers camp will be provided by the Southside VA Area Health Education Center (AHEC) which is housed at SVHEC. The energy and IT camps will be provided by SVHEC’s Career Tech Academy in partnership with the Institute for Advanced Learning & Research. There is no charge to attend either camp, and lunch and snacks will be provided.

Energy Career Exploration Camp, July 17-20, 9:00am-2:30pm| Rising 8th, 9th, and 10th Graders: Students will learn about all things within the energy sector through a combination of hands-on learning and guest speakers. They will be exposed to all types of energy including hydro, solar, nuclear, and wind. They will see the types of jobs as well as businesses in our region that are looking for those with energy backgrounds.

AHEC Health Careers Exploration Camp, July 17-20, 9:00am-3:00pm| Rising 9th-12th Graders: Students will learn about a wide range of health careers through a combination of hands-on activities and engaging guest speakers. Each day camp attendees will meet a different healthcare professional located with the Southside VA AHEC Region. Registration is limited to 20 participants.

IT Career Exploration Camp, June 26-29, 9:00am-2:30pm| Rising 8th, 9th, and 10th Graders: Students will learn about all parts of the IT world through a combination of hands-on learning and guest speakers. They will be exposed to different types of IT jobs and get to see all of the different fields they can go into with an IT background. Students will also get exposed to different businesses that have IT jobs available.
