Area students are invited to attend free career focused camps at SVHEC this summer. Camps will focus on exploring in-demand careers in healthcare and information technology (IT), and are open to middle and high school students. Spaces are limited and pre-registration is required.

The health careers camp will be provided by the Southside VA Area Health Education Center (AHEC) which is housed at SVHEC. This camp is open to rising 9th-12th grade students. The IT camps will be provided by SVHEC’s Career Tech Academy, and is open to rising 8th-10th grade students. Thanks to sponsors and grant funds, there is no charge to attend either camp.

Southside AHEC will offer two sessions for the health careers exploration camp. Students may register for the June 10-12th session or the July 24th-26th session. Both sessions will be held at the Southern VA Higher Education Center from 9:00am-3:00pm, and will feature hands-on activities and visits from engaging healthcare professionals.

The IT career exploration camp will have one session on June 24th-27th from 8:30am-11:30am. Students will learn from an experienced IT professional while exploring their interests in the exciting world of information technology. Camp topics will include learning the basics of computer components, disassembly & component identification, troubleshooting, and an escape room challenge.
