The Southern Virginia Higher Education Center (SVHEC) invites the community to enjoy an afternoon of food, fun, and friendly competition at the SVHEC Cornhole Tournament, Food Truck Rodeo, and Open House on Saturday, May 16, 2026. This is a family-friendly event with something for every age and tastebud to enjoy.

The event kicks off at 12:00 PM with a Food Truck Rodeo featuring nine food trucks serving up a variety of delicious eats. Confirmed food trucks are Southern Belle, Big Mike’s Chicken, TC’s Barbecue, Out Da Mudd Smokehouse, Wayne’s Fish & Chicken, Phillin’ Philly, Seasoned with Grace, Grilltopia, and Adri’s Sweet Treats.

New this year, an SVHEC open house has been added providing an opportunity to explore available programs, meet instructors, and tour training areas. The open house will take place from 12:00pm-2:00pm.

At 2:00 PM, we’ll let the bags fly as the cornhole action begins. The double-elimination tournament will feature teams of two competing under the 21-point bust rule. Team members must be at least 16 years old to compete. Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams, with the tournament winner taking home a set of custom cornhole boards made by ProductWorks—SVHEC’s product development and design team.

The tournament is open to the first 20 registered teams, with a $30 entry fee per team. Participants may register contacting the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center at 434-572-5556 or 434-572-5566 or emailing . “This is a great opportunity to bring the community together for a fun afternoon while supporting our local fire department,” said Virginia Barksdale, manager of the SVHEC’s Office of Learner Success & Engagement. “Whether you’re tossing bags or tasting your way through the food trucks, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.”
