Your welding career starts here!
Welding@SVHEC is a short term (16 months), accredited training program providing students with instruction in MIG, TIG, Stick, and Pipe welding. This non-credit program is accredited by the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER). Individuals who successfully complete the program will have the opportunity to earn NCCER Welding Certification. This portable, 3rd party validated industry credential is recognized by employers across the nation. Successful program completers will also have the opportunity to earn American Welding Society (AWS) SENSE credentials.
Welding@SVHEC is presented in sequenced modules and takes on average 16 months to complete. After completing each level of training, including CORE and Levels 1-4, students receive industry recognized certification and upon completion of training possess the knowledge and skills required for designation as an NCCER Certified Welder.
Welding instruction takes place in the SVHEC's new, state-of-the-art welding lab (pictured left). After completing the introductory safety courses, students spend about 80% of instructional time in the lab. Welding@SVHEC is a hands-on learning experience.
Welding@SVHEC was started in response to employer requests for more trained, certified welders. The SVHEC's Workforce Services department worked with Virginia Technical Institute in Altavista, VA to bring this certified program to South Boston. VTI is the official sponsor for Welding@SVHEC.
